The Tabla Beginner Course is an introductory program designed to teach the fundamentals of Tabla playing. It focuses on developing proper hand technique, understanding basic rhythm patterns (taals), and learning essential bols (strokes). Students are introduced to simple compositions and taught to recite and play basic thekas like Teentaal and Keharwa, helping them build a strong rhythmic foundation for future learning.

Objectives:

• To introduce the basics of Tabla playing.
• To develop a sense of rhythm and coordination.
• To prepare students for intermediate-level training.

 1. Introduction to Tabla

• Understanding the structure of the Tabla (Dayan and Bayan).
• History and importance of Tabla in Indian music.

2. Basic Strokes (Bols)

• Learning essential strokes like Na, Tin, Dha, Dhin, Ta, Ge, Ka, etc.
• Hand positions and finger techniques.
• Basic Kaydas in Teentaal
• Concept of Tihas and basic application

3. Taal System

• Concept of dugun, chaugun
• Understanding Taal, Matra, Sum, Taali, Khali and Vibhag.
• Introduction to basic Taals:
• Teentaal (16 beats)
• Keharwa (8 beats)
• Dadra (6 beats)

4. Theka and Practice Patterns

• Playing the basic Theka of each Taal.
• Practice with a metronome or Lehra (melodic loop).

5. Padhant (Recitation)

• Learning how to recite compositions with clarity and rhythm.

6. Basic Compositions

• Learning simple composition such as theka (basic rhythem patterns) for each taal.
• Introduction to some simple Kaydas, Relas  and there variations with tihai.

7. Practice and Discipline

• Daily practice routines for speed, clarity, and control.
• Listening to Tabla maestros for inspiration and understanding.

Duration:

• 6 months, depending on the curriculum and class frequency.
